Live to New York City tonight where we are tracking several key races with polls opening for those primaries in just a few hours. Tomorrow, election day in New York. A series of consequential Democratic races have the potential to really reshape New York City’s congressional delegation, potentially pushing it farther and farther to the left. Now, tomorrow is expected to test Zohran Mamdani’s influence on the future of the party.
In the 10th district that includes lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, Mamdani ally and former city comptroller Brad Lander is challenging two-term congressman Dan Goldman. Now, support for Israel is taking center stage in this race, as it is a progressive district with a large Jewish population. Eight candidates are vying to succeed retiring representative Jerry Nadler in New York’s 12th district, which is New York’s wealthiest congressional district. Notable candidates include JFK’s grandson Jack Schlossberg and state lawmaker Micah Lasher who is endorsed by both Nadler and Governor Kathy Hochul. We also have in the race anti-Trump attorney and former Republican George Conway.
As we look ahead, in addition to New York, we are following three other closely watched races tomorrow, including in Maryland, Utah, and South Carolina. In Maryland, Governor Wes Moore is seeking the Democratic nomination for a second term, and a Democratic House primary will determine who will succeed longtime congressional leader Steny Hoyer. Two of South Carolina’s top officeholders are competing for the Republican nomination for governor, and President Trump has endorsed both of them in the race. Finally, Utah is using a new congressional map that created a Democratic-friendly district in Salt Lake.
